Important reminder
While leg weakness is common with age, it is often reversible. Physical activity is the strongest defense against muscle loss and related problems.
It’s also important to address any chronic health issues and take care of your back health. Finally, emotional support and motivation are paramount.
Simple home exercises

Chair Rises: Practice getting up from a chair and slowly sitting back down to strengthen your legs. If this is difficult, use a taller chair or place a cushion on your seat and gradually work your way up to doing this exercise without using your arms.
Lunges: These exercises work each leg separately and require balance. Take a step forward, gently lower your back knee, and push yourself back up to stand. Hold onto the ground if necessary.
Walking: Walking is simple but effective. Start on a flat surface, using a cane or cane if you need stability. Gradually increase the distance and once you are confident, try small hills or trails.
Always remember: any movement is better than none, and consistency is the secret to strong legs and staying independent well into old age. If you’re not sure where to start, don’t hesitate to ask for support from a doctor, physiotherapist or friend. Your future self will thank you!
