The causes of red dots on the skin can vary, and while some of them go away on their own, others require appropriate treatment.
Some of the most common causes of red spots include: allergic reactions, acne marks, vascular birthmarks, skin spots due to angiomas, excessive protein production, obstruction of sweat glands, insect bites, burst capillaries, as well as autoimmune conditions.
1. Petechiae and purpura
These are small red dots that appear on the skin due to damaged blood vessels or capillaries. They can be caused by stress, coughing, or taking certain medications. Although they are usually harmless, they can sometimes point to hidden blood clotting disorders.
2. Cherry angiomas
These small, slightly convex, bright red bumps arise as a result of the growth of blood vessels and are usually harmless. Most often they appear with age.
3. Prickly heat
Sweat occurs when sweat lingers in the sweat ducts and leads to itchy red dots on the skin.
4. Allergic reactions
Redness can also occur with an allergic reaction to food, substances, medications or insect bites, leading to reddened skin and an itchy rash.
5. Folliculitis
Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles, usually caused by bacterial or fungal infections, resulting in red, purulent spots on the skin, accompanied by discomfort.
6. Cellulite
Cellulite is a bacterial infection of the skin that causes redness and swelling. It usually requires medical intervention and antibiotic treatment.
